We encourage democracy in action, allowing the children to discuss what is going to happen next with their activities. We provide activities that involve turn-taking, sharing and collaboration. We allow the children to develop enquiring minds where questions are encouraged and listened to.

Rule of Law: We support the children to distinguish and understand right from wrong. We encourage the children to understand not just their own behaviour but others and the consequences. We work with the children to create the rules and codes of behaviour such as agreeing a tidy up rota. This way they will understand that rules apply to everyone.

Individual Liberty: We encourage the children to take risks within reason to support and develop self-esteem and increase confidence in their own abilities. Encourage a range of experiences that allow children to explore the language of feelings and responsibility. Reflect on their differences and discuss them in a group so everyone is free to have their own ideas.

We encourage the children to have mutual respect and tolerance by supporting them to share and respect each other. We share stories that reflect and value the diversity of children’s experiences, providing resources and activities that challenge gender, cultural and racial stereotyping. We encourage the children to appreciate and respect their own and other cultures; discussing with the children similarities and differences between themselves and others. We share and discuss practices, celebrations and experiences.
